Part 6

Reflection Paragraph:
Overall this book was very detailed and inspiring to read. My first thought about this book was, "will I start getting bored of what she goes through everyday?" the answer was yes. But there was something about the book that made you want to read more to figure out what will happen at the end. I liked the book because it I like to read inspiring stories of World War II. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who would be interested in reading a book about a girl and her family in hiding during World War II. What I thought about the blogging was that it was different from other projects. What I did like about this project was that the due dates were broken down into sections, so that those who procrastinate do not cram this until the last minute.

Part 5

Summary:
Anne gets sick by the horrible food they have to eat at the annex. Anne is always talking about relationships and experimenting with boys. She really likes Peter, but some people in the annex don't like how they hang out. Then Anne finds out that she wants to publish a book after the war is over about life in the annex for a couple years. But then she thinks that people would be more interested in her diary. Which she starts writing in a form for the readers and not for herself. The people in the annex get another scare for burglary! It always turns out its the owners. Which still scares them, because it can be the police or anyone. Everyone starts getting more scared the longer they have been in the annex. The number of births, deaths, and marriage has lowered down extremely due to this war. Anne made it a huge deal, when she finally had gotten her first kiss on the cheek by Peter. They finally tell their parents about their relationship in the annex. No one is happy about it because they don't want it getting to serious. Anne starts becoming a rebel and her father gets mad at her. She became ashamed and started changing into a better person and daughter. All of a sudden their had been news that someone is trying to assassin Hitler. And inspections for jews become more detailed. Anne was writing in her diary one day before she had been taken away, and her last words in the diary were "If only there were no other people in the world."

Review:
The last section in this book was a little strange. It didn't end the way i thought it would. But what i have learned from this week is that even though you might not know what will happen in the next day, hour, or minute make the best of the present and appreciate the people your around on a daily basis. Even if they annoy you or make you angry. But the annex has a lot of memories for these people and when they died, they have nothing to look back on, on how difficult times were for 2 years living in the annex.

Focus:
What mood is reflected in Anne Frank's writing?
The mood that Anne reflects is changing all the time. Sometimes she feels like she's going to die and becomes very depressed but the next minute she is thinking about her future and making plans. Then as she thinks about the future she changes he writing style from writing to herself to then writing for the people who are going to read her diary. Her mood changes constantly but then settles in for her readers.

Part 4

Summary:
She hasn't written much in a year. So Hanukkah and St. Nicholas day is here again! They always make something good out of their gifts to each other. Anne becomes sick and tries to fight it off. Even though its Christmas, they try to make the best of it, even though they have a war going on outside of the annex. Anne had written a couple of bad things about her mother. Anne starts to grow up and realize what her mother feels. Anne also starts to become desperate for Peter Van Daan. Anne becomes very bored at the annex due to the same stories being told over and over again about jews in hiding. But starts to talk to Peter a lot more. She starts to develop feelings for him after talking to him for a while. She starts to hang out with him constantly. People in the annex start to bother Anne about Peter. Anne also constantly thinks about what she was like 2 years ago. And she said she will never go back to that person because she likes who she has become.

Review:
I haven't learn anything new this week simply because it seems like the story is kind of repeating itself. But I did learn more about Anne's "love life" with Peter. I find it normal that she has changed a lot from living in the annex. I think any person would just because of how serious of the situation they are in.

Focus:
What is the difference between how the war is then and how you would think it would be during this period of time?
The war how it was then is much easier then it would be now. I think that it would be a lot harder now, because everyone is so selfish now a days. It would also be much harder to go into hiding now, because of the technology and people can track down other people easier. Also they can kill people so much faster now, than then in the concentration camps.

Part 3

Part 3

Summary:
Its getting closer to Hanukkah and St. Nicholas Day, as they celebrate shortly. Mr. Dussel, the dentist, tries to get going a little office for the people in the house so that he can do work on their teeth. Anne then finds out all these stories going on in the outside world. Anne's father believes that the war will end soon. Everyone is getting annoyed by Anne, and she wishes she was different. Mr Dussel is writing letter, and sending them, Mr Frank think he should stop because they might get caught in hiding and all get taken away. They also got a scare, they thought that someone had broken into the building and they started becoming more alert. A lot has been going on in the annex. The man who let everyone stay in the annex has just gotten cancer and is not planned to live any longer. Anne is starting to lose her sight. Anne is also already thinking about what she would do when the war is finally over. The rules have changed and they can not have radios anymore which means the Franks and the others living in the annex can not hear what is going on in the outside world. Anne becomes depressed and starts taking medication.

Review:
In this section, everyone gets scared in the annex because so many things are happening. I would be terrified if something like that happened, and thinking that you could die at any moment. What I have learned in this section is that you always have to be ready at any moment just incase anything happens. So many Jews are getting killed.

Focus:
Question- How does Anne react to all of what is going on?
Anne seems to be calm about living in the annex. She doesn't seem as terrified as I would be if i was in her position. She seemed fine until she got depressed. She is frequently bored so she does not like the annex at all since she can't move during working hours.

Part 2

Part 2

Summary:
Anne comes to love the hiding place she lives in called the Annex. Anne is excited to meet to new people that are going to be living with her! The van Daans are also living here to be in hiding just like the Frank's. Anne does not want to go outside anymore because she's afraid she will get captured by the Nazi's. Anne doesn't have a good relationship with her mother and sister because they are different from her. Anne's father and herself are the only ones who really connect with each other. A couple days later, people had thought that the Frank's had disappeared but in reality they told friends that they moved to Switzerland to trick Gestapo (Secret Police). The Frank's and the van Daans don't get along with each other. They fight constantly about random things. Anne always gets afraid of when the door bell ring because she's afraid that it might be the Gestapo. Anne spends her day studying for french, history and math. There are a new set of couple who settle in, Miep and Jan. Jan lives in Anne's room and he tells Anne all the stories on whats going on outside, that people are committing murders and such. Anne becomes so much more thankful that she gets to be living in a hiding spot.

Review:
What I have read this week was very interesting. It had some juicy stories that you can imagine. What I have learned in this weeks reading is that living in a hiding spot is like life or death. If you make it a bit obvious at all you can be dead very soon. This was no fun and games. What they were going through was probably the most scariest thing you can go through.

Focus:
Authors Point of View and Purpose
Anne's point of view in writing her diary was that she liked to write and her birthday present was a diary so why not write in it. The purpose of this was defiantly for her to look back and see what she has went through but that was not a case in this situation. She wanted to go back to her stories in the future and tell people all about it like maybe her kids some day but that didn't and couldn't happen.

Anne Frank:
The Diary of a Young Girl

Part 1: Moving in

Summary:
Anne Frank's birthday is June 12, the year is 1942. One of her presents was a diary, that she had begun to write on her birthday. For her birthday she goes out with her friends to school and she has a great time. She lives in Holland, and during this time is when the nazi's start to invade this country. The jews had to wear gold stars on them to be recognized by the Nazis. The jews were not allowed to ride any vehicle or bike, and were to only go to the store during certain hours. So Anne had to be back before dark. That same year her Grandmother died, it became more difficult for their family. Anne meets a boy named Hello and start to hang out a lot but Anne says she is in love with a guy names Peter, not Hello. Anne's sister gets a call up from the nazi's, the family puts as many clothes on them as possible and move into a office building the next day. Anne then started getting afraid of what was going to happen later on.

Review:
What I have read has taken my mind set on World War II and changed it completely. The way the rules were set out was absurd. The nazi's were very controlling and no one could do anything about it. This book is very interesting because it gets you going on what is going to happen next.

Focus Questions:

  • Why did she go to school if she is not allowed to?
  • Why would the jews go to the store during a certain time if they can get taken away by the Nazi's at that time?
  • Why doesn't the family take suitcases, why do they put all the clothes on them?
